It's official... the tumor is shrinking! Had an ultrasound today and the mass went from 3.9 cm to 2.5 cm (roughly). It's gone down by at least 1/3rd. This is very exciting!!
Everything is on track for me to have a lumpectomy vs a mastectomy. This is my desired result. In fact, I went ahead and scheduled the lumpectomy for October 11th. IF the tumor doesn't shrink anymore, then chances of a "successful" lumpectomy are less. What he'll do is go in and remove the tumor, plus 10 mm of additional tissue (margin). The surgery will be over and they'll test the tissue. If the results come back that the margins have cancerous cells, I'll need to have another surgery to remove more. This surgery could result in mastectomy, depending on how much more there is to take out.
I'm not saying that a mastectomy is the worst thing on the planet, I would just prefer to have a less invasive surgery. Taking out a few cells vs taking off the whole boob is MUCH more preferable. Obviously, being cancer-free is the most important thing. Regardless of the surgery, I'll most definitely have to have radiation.... I suppose I should educate myself more on this....
On a totally different note: at 10:10 last night, something startled me awake. I looked over and there was a woman standing in the doorway in my bedroom. She was short and had short dark hair. I didn't recognize her. The moment we made eye contact, she turned around and headed toward the hallway. I was scared about someone strange being in my house. I sat up in my bed and was about to see what she was doing but after contemplating this for a few seconds, realized that the dogs would have barked it if she would have been "real." So, I laid back down. But, I couldn't fall asleep. Who was this woman and why was she here? Needless to say, I've been a little freaked out. I'm certain it was a sign and I think it was probably a good one..... especially given the results today.
Thank you to everyone who sent out out positive energy and prayers to and for me today. Please continue your focus so that the cells surrounding my tumor will result in "good margins" and my surgery is minimal. Believe it or not, I can feel your support. Thank you. Thank you!
I'm pretty sure it was Cyndi Lauper. "Oooooh, Girls they wanna have fuh-un. Oh girls just want to have fun."
